PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY:

Founded in 1995, Mayo Clinic Florida’s postdoctoral fellowship is grounded in the institution’s long-standing three-shield philosophy of Clinical Practice, Research, and Education, unified by the core value that “the needs of the patient come first.” Fellows train in a values-driven environment guided by Mayo Clinic’s RICH TIES principles—Respect, Integrity, Compassion, Healing, Teamwork, Innovation, Excellence, and Stewardship. Starting in 2026, our program now recruits one fellow each year. Former fellows have secured positions in academic departments, medical centers, private practice, and industry, and continue to contribute to neuropsychology in exciting and innovative ways.

CLINICAL EXPERIENCES:

Clinical training comprises approximately 80% of the fellowship and is delivered through closely supervised, case-based learning with a highly experienced neuropsychology faculty, most of whom are ABPP board-certified. Fellows complete three primary rotations including Neurodegenerative Neuropsychology, Neurosurgical Neuropsychology, and Complex Medical Neuropsychology, with each offering in-depth exposure to specialized populations, advanced diagnostic questions, and innovative neuro-interventional programs. Training occurs primarily in outpatient settings, with additional hospital-based experiences such as presurgical evaluations and intra-operative mapping. An elective rotation each year allows fellows to individualize their training.

RESEARCH AND DIDACTIC EXPERIENCES:

The remaining fellowship time is devoted to research and education, with protected research time supporting conference presentations and manuscript development under the mentorship of highly productive faculty. Fellows participate in a robust learning curriculum that includes a program director-led professional development didactic, neuropsychology clinic conference, and multisite Mayo neuropsychology conference, among others. Additional learning is enhanced through structured coursework, interdisciplinary patient care conferences, and shadowing experiences across multiple medical and surgical specialties. Together, these experiences ensure comprehensive preparation for independent practice, academic careers, and leadership in clinical neuropsychology.

BENEFITS:

Mayo Clinic Florida benefits are generous. Fellow salaries are determined by year in the program and are paid biweekly. As of March 2026, fellows’ year 1 salary is $75,105 and year 2 salary is $77,721. Fellows receive 20 vacation days per year and 15 conference trip days per year. This is in addition to parental leave time, insurance benefits, covered purchase of EPPP study materials and licensing fees, and free campus parking. APPLICATION PROCEDURES:

Applications to this program are due in December of each year. Our program uses an application program called Recruit, not APPA CAS. Please go to our fellowship website which describes the application process in greater detail. The following materials must be submitted via Recruit: 1) a cover letter; 2) a personal statement; 3) an updated curriculum vitae; 4) copy of doctoral diploma [if available]; 5) official graduate school program transcripts; 6) an APPCN Verification of Completion of Doctorate form completed by your doctoral program's director of clinical training; 7) any relevant publications in PDF form; and 8) three letters of recommendation from faculty that have worked with you and know you well. Letter writers should submit using the Recruit system or email the program director directly.

PLEASE NOTE that this is an advanced fellowship opportunity. Our program has a non-negotiable prerequisite that you have taken a graduate-level course in neural systems and/or neuroanatomy. It would be very hard to fully appreciate the learning opportunities in our setting without this base foundational knowledge.

Selected applicants will be notified by mid-December of an invitation to interview. Invitees will select from one of two in-person interview options, both of which will take place in early January. Each interview is a half-day in duration, one to be held in the morning and the other in the afternoon. The interview will include an overview of the program with the Program Director and Associate Program Director, individual interviews with some of our faculty, meeting with our current fellows, a campus tour, and one group luncheon or dinner courtesy of Mayo Clinic Florida. We are also able to reimburse for one night’s hotel stay. If an in-person interview is not possible, an invitee can schedule a personally tailored Zoom interview with Mayo Clinic Florida faculty and our current fellows.
